Save the strip of rip stop nylon tied around your folded new kite. It can be used for canopy repairs.
It's been a while, so before you ride the waves today, make sure all the screws on your board are tight.
Take the time to learn to kite on a strapless surf board so you can still go kiting when your knees or ankles are sprained/fractured.
Try placing your foot straps wider apart for a session or two. Does placing your heel nearer to the fins allow you to edge harder and go upwind better?
Hone your skills by secretly competing against race boarders. At a safe distance away and behind them, see if you can race upwind as well as them. Race them down wind. Now race up wind again, turn and then see how long you can hold your top speed.
Think of your board a one large fin. You can change the "base" by how much of the edge you place in the water and and the "depth" by how much you sink the tail. The a long base and short depth will create a "rake" for going fast.
Do you over use the bar to spill power and control your speed? Next session focus on using your board to control your speed by edging more aggressively and/or putting more weight on your back heel..
Valves stretch and will leak over time. Opening all valves after using your kite to greatly slow the valves from stretching.
Take care of your kite like you would your skin: wash the sand or dirt off, keep it out of the sun, don't drag is across gravel or cement, and don't step on it.
