To set my bar so that my kite does not back-stall, I spin the bar one rotation and then pull the bar all the way in. Now I adjust my bar so that the trailing edge of the kite does not bend inward and my kite does not fall back in the wind window. Now

Batons used on an inflatable kite are a signal to me that the kite designer was struggling to make a kite hold it's shape. In general, I avoid buying a kite that uses batons because I don't want a kite that deforms. I want a kite that performs.

To go up-wind well on a board with just a little rocker (on a flat surface your board does not arc up much from tip to tail) travel at a speed somewhere between a jog and a run.

To go up-wind well on a board with a lot of rocker, you'll need some speed. Going slow doesn't work well. (Your board has a lot of rocker if you put it down on a flat surface and from tip to tail the board arcs up like a smile).
