For down-winders, choose a kite big enough to be powered as you not be edging against the kite as much as usual.
To practice hooking in and unhooking, flatten the board out and aim the nose of the board towards your kite. You want to be chasing the kite and not edging against it as you pull the bar in to your waist.
You are struggling to go up wind with reef on one reach and the beach on the other. Kiting down-wind and out to open sea might enable you to work your way up-wind faster.
Think of your board as one fin slicing through the water. You control how much of your board is submerged and where. What are the most effective angles to position your board for a reach, a turn or taking off on a jump?
A back loop will propel you quickly down wind to make it past the section of closing out wave and hopefully put you right back to where the wave is peeling off.
Is the surgical tubing on your 1 pump kite secured by a neat ring? Replace those rings with plastic zip ties before they pop off, your kite deflates and you are forced to swim to shore.
I see so many people whom have been kiting for years but they don't progress because they ride too powered and the kite is pulling them off balance.
Get out there today and try something new. Even if it is just the same old trick but grabbing the board with the other hand and landing toe-side.
Don't underestimate the corrosive power of salt water. Wash your harness, bar and surf board after each use.
While riding waves, pay attention to the current. If your kite does down, it will relaunch quicker to the side where the current is going going side or side-on to the wind.
