You're overpowered and want to self land. Stay waist deep in the water and bring the kite down onto the water (Do not bring your kite down on land--towards trees, buildings or a road). Pull your quick release and go hand over hand towards your kite.
You'll have more stability if you bring the board to your hand, to your core, during a board grab than bending over body and reaching for the board.
To make your kite turn faster, make sure you are pushing one end of the bar directly towards your kite and the other end of the bar pointed directly away.
The biggest reason people sink while attempting their first turns is they bring their kite up and over to the other side without stopping first. Hold your kite at 11 or 1, come to a stop then bring your kite up and over.
Your unstable and may crash on your first rides. Let go of the bar and fall back to your starting point/sit down. Repeat. Don't try for a longer ride at expense of losing your board.
Your board's footpads should be farther than shoulder width apart. Because when you are riding you're leaning back w/your back leg bent and front stretch out.
If you weigh 200lbs or more, an 140cm board is too small for you for most conditions. Borrow or rent a 150-160cm board and see if you turn, water start and go upwind better.
Someone flew their kite through your lines. Your goal is to both activate your quick release and get a hold of either kite before it starts looping. Both of you should try to self rescue in.
You probably don't want to fill your bladders with sand. You can clean your pump or at least before inflating your kite, give it a few pumps to make sure you are not blowing sand inside.
